5 Moments is our fifth annual exploration of performing artists in cyberspace. The intention of this journey is to introduce cyberspace technology in a fun and inviting way to artists of Asian descent and to the public at large. This collaboration with the Montreal Asian Heritage Festival and OBORO is a unique event with Asian artists and live audiences in different cities.

This year it is an honour to feature two very established creators and dancers, Denise Fujiwara from Toronto and Roger Sinha from Montréal. Through movement and sound, these two dancers will perform and improvise from their respective cities through cyberspace in front of a live audience. As a member of this audience, you will be participating in the evolution of live-streaming, sensing the strange dynamics of time in cyberspace. Come and explore these… 5 Moments with us.

Denise Fujiwara is a choreographer, dancer, actress, dance impresario and teacher. Her fifth solo concert, Brief Incarnations, includes new works by the remarkable choreographers Peter Chin and Tedd Robinson, as well as choreographies of her own. Tedd Robinson’s solo was nominated for a Dora Award in 2001 for Best Choreography and Best Dance Performance.

The creative impulse of Montreal artist Roger Sinha draws on memories of his cultural origins, expressing itself in a dynamic tension between the intimate and the universal, between control and abandon. His choreographic style is a complex and paradoxical syntax of deconstruction and fusion, of codes, forms, styles, rhythms and resonances.

A musician/composer since 1975, Janet Lumb combined her passion for culture and community for eight years as director of the Montreal Asian Heritage Festival. 5 Moments is Janet Lumb’s attempt to transcend Canada’s vast geographical boundaries. She was this year’s recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for her outstanding commitment to the arts and the community.
