Sutapa Biswas Conference by the Artist
OBORO
The title of Sutapa Biswas' exhibition Synaspe suggests a metaphor for the way we recall and reconstruct our past. Derived from a medical term that describes the region of contact between two neurons (...), the notion of “synapse” as used by Biswas refers to the link between the seemingly distinct spheres of body and mind - at least as Western philosophical tradition presents them to us. Transposed from its original context, the synapse here evokes the shifting, elusive zone through which memories and desires transit. Gilane Tawadros, Remembrance of things past and present.
