Organized in collaboration with the Western Front (Vancouver)

A 5 day Workshop / Think Tank / Fab Lab with communication technologies

This project aims to bring together a small group of people for a series of experimental workshops, both theoretical and practical in nature, which focus on telecommunications and computer-based media. An integral aspect of this technological “Think Tank’ will be the on-line linking of different sites throughout the world with two specific nodal sites: OBORO in Montreal and the Western Front in Vancouver.

The parameters of the investigation will remain open, while certain timely questions/issues will act as anchors for the discussion: the emergency of digital cultures, the concept of trans-territorial nations and the nature of network ecology. Medias explored will range from the simple Vidphone to Internet communication, without forgetting the portable transmitter and the good ol’ fax! There is still room for individuals interesting in participating. Contact OBORO for more details.

Animated by Hank Bull, an interdisciplinary artist who has been working at Vancouver’s Western Front for about 20 years, the workshop will provide the unique opportunity to work with an artist possessing a solid communications technologies experience. Hank keeps fit by getting up and running around his computer every four hours.
