Standing at the entrance to my old age, I have a desire to understand the forces that formed me and made me what I am, even as I know that what I know, who I think I am, what I seize on as truth is ephemeral and ever-shifting. Still I have so many questions. The forces that I speak of – patriarchy and misogyny, class, racism, the catastrophic events of World War II – these I examine in a quest of becoming. Cassandra: An Opera in Four Acts has been becoming even as I have been becoming. F.G.
