Paolo Almario

Born in Colombia, Paolo Almario has lived and worked in Chicoutimi, Québec, since 2011. He studied at the Facultad de Arquitectura y Diseño at the Universidad Los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia). He holds a Master of Arts (2014) from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, where he now teaches. For his exhibition series "-formé" (formé, transformé, paraformé et fauxrmé) Almario has conducted research on the various forms of destruction to spatial representations of his being caused by Colombia’s armed conflict. In the process, he has studied the multiple preventative arrests and detentions to which his father was subjected (1998, 2008 and 2012). His discoveries of corruption within the justice system and the violation of his father’s right to a fair trial have generated reactions that led him to seek asylum in Canada in 2012. His work has been exhibited in Colombia, New Brunswick and Québec.
