Exhibitions and Special Projects Program
Deadline: October 1st yearly
OBORO welcomes proposals from artists, curators, artist collectives or organisations who are looking to present an exhibition or special projects (conference, launch, round-table, etc.) principally in the fields of visual arts, media arts, interdisciplinary practices and new media.
Those interested must complete the Submission Form and submit a complete dossier which includes a description of the project on an artistic and technical level. We invite you to please consult the gallery floor plan and the list of activities that OBORO has presented over the past years before sending your proposal.

Research and Production Residencies Program
Deadline: October 1st 2012
All artist residencies for our 2011-2012 season have been filled. Proposals for exhibitions and special projects will be accepted on October 1, 2011. The next deadline for residency projects is postponed to October 2012.

Production Assistance Program
Deadline: any time
Production assistance is provided in the form of access to equipment and services from the New Media Lab at a reduced rate to artists and independent producers for non commercial projects only. Candidates must provide precise information as to the reasons and context that justify their request (for example the difficulty of obtaining financing, first large scale project, sudden unexpected situation, etc.).
Besides completing the requisition form - Production activities, requests must include an artistic and technological description of the project and biographical information about the participants.
Applications for the Production assistance may be submitted at any time. Answers are generally given a few weeks after submitting the proposal. For more information, please contact OBORO's New Media Lab access coordinator at lab@oboro.net or by phone at 514-844-3250 ext 230.
Assistance for presentation activities program
Deadline: anytime between September 1st and May 31st
In addition to its regular programming, pending the availability of resources, OBORO welcomes within its facilities presentation activities (launches, concerts, performances and other events) by artists and cultural organisations.
Assistance to presentation activities takes the form of access to equipment and services of the New Media Lab at reduced rates. This program is dedicated to supporting not-for-profit projects that are in accordance with OBORO’s mandate.

New Media Production Creation Grant for Young Artists

You're under 35 years old, live in the Greater Montreal Area, and you wish to dedicate yourself to the production of an innovative artwork in the field of media arts and new technologies? The New Media Production Grant for Young Artists offered by the Caisse populaire Desjardins du Mont-Royal provides you with access to the equipments and resources of OBORO’S New Media Lab. The GEORGES-LAOUN-OPTICIEN-OBORO Super Short Film Prize
Deadline : August 22nd, 2011
Attention to Canadian creators of all ages and disciplines!
Submit an original film or video of 3 minutes or less before August 22, 2011 to the GEORGES-LAOUN-OPTICIEN-OBORO Super Short Film Prize contest!
The six finalists' works will be screened in Georges Laoun Opticien's store-window at 4012 Saint-Denis Street, in Montreal, and at other venues in Quebec in the Fall of 2011. The winner will be announced during the opening night reception.
Every finalist will receive $100 in cash, and the winner will be offered a prize of $500 in cash and $1500 of access to OBORO's New Media Lab equipment and studios.
Applications must include:
- one DVD copy of the short film or video, shorter than 3 minutes, produced after January 2011;
- a brief synopsis of the film or video;
- an artist CV and short bio;
- a self-addressed and stamped envelope (if you wish that your DVD be returned*).
* Please note that proposals with no s.a.s.e. will not be kept by OBORO.

Saguenay-Montreal Studios
Deadline: September 15 yearly
Production/residency grant (digital art and new media) for artists from Ville de Saguenay and the island of Montréal.
A collaboration between the arts council (CALQ, CAM, CAS), in partnership with OBORO and ESPACE VIRTUEL.
This initiative creates a bridge between the metropolitan art community and Ville de Saguenay’s professional arts community. In the spirit of bringing the two together, and of encouraging artistic exchange in the realms of new media and digital art.
Thanks to this new program, Montrealer artists working in new medias and from the cultural diversity will receive a $10 000 bursary. This sum covers the cost for a three month residency in an artist’s center in the Ville de Saguenay. In parallel, an artist from Saguenay will also receive a $10 000 bursary for a comparable residency in Montreal at OBORO.

EICV & AAVA Prizes
OBORO supports future generations of artists by offering two prizes annually for the Événement interuniversitaire de création vidéo (EICV) and the Academy of Art Video Art (AAVA),respectively of a $750 and a $1000 value in equipment access from the New Media Lab.
Writing Audio Art
Deadline: Monday January 17th, 2011
esse arts + opinions, together with OBORO, is offering a new writing and research residency for Canadian writers, researchers and critics.
Writing Audio Art offers a research stay and publication, to a Canadian Anglophone or Francophone writer, developing an engaging perspective on audio art. The chosen author will be invited to spend two weeks at OBORO, focussing on their research and producing a text, to be published in the magazine esse arts + opinions in January 2012.
