Roger Tellier-Craig Sound Creation Strategies for Image and Motion

This workshop explores a range of approaches to sound creation for film, video, installation, and performance. Combining theory, listening sessions, and hands-on experimentation, participants will examine how sound can shape narrative, transform atmosphere, and influence the emotional perception of a work.
Drawing on concepts such as diegetic and non-diegetic sound, sonic environments, and the relationship between sound and moving images, participants will experiment with different methods of generating and transforming sound material, including close-miking everyday objects, modular and digital synthesis, and audio processing in Ableton Live. Working from a sound library created collectively during the workshop, participants will develop a short soundtrack that puts these approaches into practice.
The cost of the training is $80 plus tax. Please note that the training will be conducted primarily in French but the artist trainer is bilingual.

Roger Tellier-Craig is an interdisciplinary composer with more than twenty-five years of experience. A graduate of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal in electroacoustic composition, he composes for film, theatre, dance, and media arts. His collaborators include Denis Côté, Brigitte Haentjens, Karl Lemieux, Sabrina Ratté, Dana Gingras, and United Visual Artists. He is a founding member of the groups Fly Pan Am, Et Sans, Set Fire to Flames, and Le Révélateur, and has presented his work throughout Canada, Europe, the United States, and Japan. His music has been released on numerous international labels and has received awards from the Canadian Electroacoustic Community (CEC).
Fili 周 Gibbons (we/they) are a musician and sound engineer of mixed Chinese and Canadian ancestry based in Tiohtià:ke / Montreal. Their artistic practice is a synthesis of cello performance, audio creation, embodiment, and traditional memory systems — employing these as potencies for the expression of plural identities, and the transmission of cultural memory. Drawing from many years of practice in cello performance, improvisation and audio production, they frequently collaborate across genres with artists from Canada and abroad (Devon Bate, Paloma Dawkins, Yaya Diallo, Rajni Shah). Deepening their connection to sound further through recording studies (M. Mus, McGill University), they continue to explore audio practice through interdisciplinary collaborations, and community-oriented sound projects.
