Leitmotiv, Sabrina Côté
During her 2-month residency at OBORO, Sabrina Côté had continued her recent research investigating the correspondence between sound, image and movement. By creating a series of short video animations, she explored the soundtrack’s predominant role, which acts as a source of inspiration for creating the images.
In Leitmotiv, common objects encountered everyday are suddenly magnified and come alive before the viewer’s eyes, projecting all their poetic potential. The images are based on the sound and illustrate its “mood,” acting as its interpreters. Favouring lightness and economical in gesture, the artist wishes to cultivate a free and unpremeditated intention, while following the rhythm of the soundtrack.
Tiburón, Anne Ashton
Anne Ashton's painting installation Tiburón retains the overall aesthetic qualities of her work, while also adopting a more socially engaged tone. Thematizing the potential extinction of the great white shark due to human impact, this exhibition provokes ways of thinking about our values and fears, and their underlying reasons.
Somewhere Else, Rebecca Belmore
Rebecca Belmore's guest exhibition Somewhere Else investigates the endurance of an image over an action. Drawing on video documentation of four past performances, she has created new sculptural works that suggest original actions, but in which the absence of the body is meaningful.
