Mario Côté will first present excerpts from hi early works. Produced in 1988, Les lieux-dits is an extension of painting, an attempt to take from it words that concern it. Exploring video writing, Parabole 1 and Parabole 78 are portraits of two Québec painters, Roméo Savoie and Louise Robert.
These tapes will be followed by 13 tableaux, 13 portraits. In this work, reminiscent of an unfinished encyclopædia, tableaux are seen one after another like pages, sometimes static, sometimes in motion.
Lastly, the artist wishes to present two new works: Tableau n° 14 and n° 16. They were produced in the same vein as 13 tableaux, 13 portraits, a work chat rands between painting and video.

In 1992 this multidisciplinary artist won the video award at the 10th Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois for 13 tableaux, 13 portraits. Mario Côté’s work is an exploration of the relationships between painting, writing and video. His tapes are distributed by Videographe.
