Zimoun Prepared DC-Motors on Cardboard
Zimoun, 2011
Opening on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 5 pm
From simple cardboard boxes expertly stacked against walls, Zimoun erects a structure that transforms the architectural space of the gallery. Affixed to the exterior of the boxes on the inside of the structure are small direct-current motors to which wires and compressed balls of cotton or cork are attached. When the motors are activated, the structure resonates with an unusual sound composition. Exploring rhythm and mechanics, Zimoun creates a tension between the systemic mechanisms of modernity and the natural chaos of life. The deep rumbling that emanates from the work takes the form of an emotive sound wave that naturally harmonizes with the spiritual vibrations and electromagnetic reverberations omnipresent in our contemporary world.
