During his residency at OBORO, Florian Grond will experiment with space filling curves (SFCs) for a multimedia installation. SFCs have an interesting theoretical background since their core property is to linearize high dimensional content. More specifically Grond will develop an installation combining linear representations of life through video images with a classical fine arts question—the central perspective. The acoustic part of the installation is directly related to the structural properties of SFCs and will address space and time in sound.
An image is scanned through the structure of an SFC, and then it gradually unfolds and leads to a continuous stream. This stream has the characteristics of a spectrogram and could as such be turned into sound. Different colours would then compose different sounds, which would change in time and result in a travelling sound wave.
