During their residency at OBORO, the artists Sarah Wendt and Pascal Dufaux will explore a series of sound objects they have been developing and performing with over the past few years. These small instruments—shaped by references to the inner ear and tubular wind instruments—are crafted from materials such as ceramic, plaster composite, porcelain, and plexiglass. They are played using breath, embedded speakers, and other experimental techniques. With support from OBORO’s technical team, the artists aim to research new ways of activating these sculptures in space, integrating them into a multichannel audio system for live performance. Alongside this, they will continue working with dancer-collaborators to develop sensory scores and tactile objects, building toward a new interdisciplinary performance.
As part of a public sharing of this first stage of the work, the residency will conclude with the presentation of a sound installation on Friday, October 3, in conjunction with the opening of the exhibitions Corps matériels by Stanley Wany and Yahndawa’: Vertige et les Sept feux by the artist duo Anne-Marie Bouchard and Manon Sioui.
The artists would like to thank the Canada Council for the Arts.
